Today one year ago!

Today a year ago my long ride to Russia, Siberia and Arctic Circle started. My thoughts and memories are running wild today …

New horizons ... and the KLR sounds like a happy chap.

I was privileged that I could share special time with a few matric class friends a few weekends ago. We attended school in Ladybrand in the Eastern Free State.

Our many “Do you remember?”-s reminded me of a quote of Milan Kundera: “There is a certain part of all of us that lives outside of time. Perhaps we become aware of our age only at exceptional moments and most of the time we are ageless.”

A trip down memory lane is indeed an ageless trip.

Estelle, George, thank you so much for travelling so far to come and visit me.

Please pray for a speedy recovery: We bikers know we live on the edge while using our bikes to commute or travel. Our dear KLR Clan friends Dick and Antoinette who organized the annual Golden Gate weekend ride and the legendary accompanying spitbaai were seriously injured when a taxi hit them on Monday. Both are still in hospital with broken legs . We pray for a complete recovery from all injuries.

Dick busy preparing another wonderful spit braai.

KATE: Ingrid let me know yesterday that she personally will drop off the first copy of Kate at my home in Naboomspruit the end of June. That means the long wait is nearly over! I will let you know about the distribution of the book.

The biker story that touched, and changed many people, myself the most.

Well done to another solo traveller!  On March 10, 2013, Riaan van Rooyen made his first stop in Naboomspruit, where we had  juice at my home. This morning I read that he had arrived safely in Spain and is about 1 000 km from Barcelona. Well done Riaan! What a great achievement! His lady Deidre will join him in Barcelona on Saturday.

Day 1 of a marathon trip!

Hi Lodie! Another writer you are quoting: Milan Kundera (I´ll remember your good quote! Have always loved the title of his book (and not so much the book itself) “the unbearable lightness of being”, it sums up for me the greatness ànd sadness of our time, living on this earth: it´s incredible beauty and it´s unbearable harshness… it seems to be all part of it. Nice photo´s, very curious for your book! Love, Patti and Bernd (thanks for wellwishes: Levie is a little wonder of nature and has very loving parents, which should be a great start in life)
